I have had to resort to using CSA. My Xhusband was paying mortgage til September when house was sold. I am now homeless living with sister and my 2 kids. My X has refused to pay maintenance and told me to go to CSA. I have just had their letter confirming what Im entitled too. He is in Police and average takehome pay £1800 after pension deductions. they have his weekly wage as approx £350 as they have to allow for his pension deduction, but this has already been taken off from the £1800. I have phoned several times and am getting no where, Does anyone know if they are calculating it right? Also can they take his new partners income into consideration. Ive also been told case cannot be back dated to September as he was already paying CSA to another Child?:(

There's a huge difference between £1800 and £350 are these both nett weekley figures?

The nett figure they will work off will be the figure he gets minus anything he will not be taxed on. So if he gets a travel allowance/car allowance etc or anything like that then it will be excluded from the figure they're calculating on.

Ask the CSA to go through with you exactly what allowances they have made and how they reached their calculation figure.

With regard to his partner, if there are no children living with him, then yes all other residents are excluded from the calculation. It is based on a strict percentage rule of his taxable earnings with an allowance made for any other children he also supports.

child maintenance cannot be back dated before the time the CSA contact the non resident parent. If your husband has a child from a previous relationship the CSA calculation will be based on 25% of his net income shared for the three children. :(

Hi my ex is police too, we have 2 children - he had about 11 yrs service when we seperated I get £400 pcm for them as maintenance. I had the impression the police are fairly keen for exs to pay their way - have you been in touch with the police benevolent people - something I may consider as he has had no contact with one of our children for almost 2 years (not a card or present or congrats on exam results etc)and uni approaches. Or you could even approach his forces Professional Standards office - they seem to carry some clout - I approached them when he and ow - both police abandoned both children 2 yrs ago after an argument.
Good luck!

I think what you are saying is that his net monthly earnings after deductions is £1800.

From that his weekly net earnings should be £415.38.

Are you saying that you think they are deducting his pension contribution twice?

thanks, for replying. He takes home £1800 per calander month after taxand his pension deduction. They have said his net weekly wage is £350. after taking off 15% for his new baby I am entitled to £48 week for my 2 kids. Even he was expecting to pay £400 a month before he told me to go to CSA.
