As far as I know a FAO is made with the agreement of both parties and basically orders CAFCASS to provide assistance and support, normally to facilitate contact.

There are many reasons why a child might be resistant to contact, a child's mind being poisoned is only one of them. For example, there are children of any age who grieve for the loss of their parent's relationship or pick up on the parent's feelings of abandonment and cling to the constant, the parent with the majority of care. There are those for whom contact is unrewarding and the there are those who have had bad experiences such as witnessing domestic violence. The first problem for courts is to identify the reason and then try to address the problem.

When both parents agree the court may order CAFCASS or another agency to advise, assist and befriend family members named in the order where it is appropriate. The purpose being to provide expert assistance and advice to a family for a short period of time in order to help both parents to work together to better understand their child’s needs, and support their children.

Thanks for the info.

As I said in my original posting it was the view of all concerned that the children were being alienated against me, CAFCASS are now saying “they are being ‘fed’. A FAO may well be the way forward for us if we can get an agreement, however under the circumstances I doubt it.

Cheers

A daily diet of negativity from one parent about the other parent is hugely destructive and whilst other factors may be present regards alienation, this factor has a major impact that is enormously difficult for a child of any age to cope with.

It is also enormously difficult for the parent being alienated. There is no one shoe (solution) fits all, there is little support and understanding and the damage continues in many ways for years...sometimes never being satisfactorily addressed. I do wish you well with yourr situation...a living hell that hopefully the FAO assists for all concerneds benefit.
