my ex hasn't paid any maintenance since we split, the csa can't do anything as he isn't working nor does he claim benefits and they won't take partners income either. how do i go about getting maintenance? we do not have any sort of communication and i do not trust ex either.

is he working cash in hand? how is he living? with the CSA you can look at doing a variation on the grounds that he's living beyond his means (there's a technical term for it but it escapes me at the moment - hopefully someone will come along and remind me!). But if he's literally being kept by his parents or new partner, there's nothing to be done - can't get blood out of a stone!

As M2B says, if he is not working then there may be little or nothing you can do. You could ask the CSA to keep the application on file I guess - and if you have evidence that he is working/claiming benefits you could reactivate it then but if he is a "kept man" then you may be in serious difficulty as far as getting cash from him goes. It may be redressed to an extent when you have your fianncial settlement but again that depends what, if anything, he has.

Are you working? Are you claiming tax credits?
Do make sure you are claiming everything you can in benefits. Go to the CAB for a full benefits check to make sure you are getting what is right for you.
