Hello, I have been trying to find out the answer to this one through numerous threads and websites, but i am still a bit unclear.
My eldest son who was 19 in March 2010, will be finishing a 2 year Btec Diploma at the end of term this year. In September he will start a 1 year foundation Course at the same local college and will be still living at home (50/50). Can anyone tell me if a Foundation Course is classed as Further Education or Advanced Education and will his mother still be eligble for CB/CTC and CM from myself.

Thankyou

Sorry i don`t know anything about state benefits.

As for CM what was agreed? do you have a Consent Order? if you do and the order states CM to end at the end or tertiary education then yes you can argue the course is a stage of tertiary education.

I think he will be eligible until the first monday in Sept following his 19th birthday. CM is paid in arrears so you should make the Sept payment in full.

I do not think the foundation course will be an eligible course, but you could always contact the CB office:

Calling the Child Benefit Office Helpline on Tel 0845 302 1444 or textphone Tel 0845 302 1474. The Helpline is open between 8.00 am and 8.00 pm, seven days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. If your preferred language is Welsh you can call on Tel 0845 302 1489, and if you are telephoning from outside the UK you can call on Tel + 44 161 210 3086.

Hi, thankyou for your replies. There was no consent order for CM, it was through the CSA and i have always paid weekly by S/O. I just wanted to get my facts right before i stop the CM payments to his mother.
Thankyou

Are you intending to change the payments and make them directly to your son?

He will still need to be fed and watered regardless of which course he is on.

Ursa Major,thanks for your reply.
Yes, i am partly going to pay it directly to my son. I am hoping that he will offer to pay his mother weekly board from it. I want him to learn to manage his own money (whether it be earned by himself or from me)
Thanks
