Staying at college at 19, does CSA still apply?

My son, who is 19 at the end of September, is re-taking his last year at college to get his A levels. Will I still be able to receive CSA for him?

Also, what about Child tax credits and child benefit? When will they finish?

Depending on the type of course Child Benefit can be claimed until the child reaches 20 years of age. You can check out which type of courses on the Department of Work and Pensions website.

The law has changed raising the age from 19 to 20 for child support when a child is continuing a course although as far as I'm aware this has yet to be implemented. I would phone the CSA and ask. Be prepared to ask to speak to someone who knows if the person answering the phone doesn't have the information.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the prompt reply, Fiona.

When you say the age is going up from 19 to 20 I assume I will still receive CSA as my son will be 19 after he's started his re-take year. By the time he's 20 he will hopefully be in his first year at uni... :)
