Hi,
I am just about to start divorce porceedings on my wife for the 2nd time. Yes I should have learnt the first time around but didn't.

Complication this time is we now have a toddler as well. I obviously love my daughter dearly but it does cause more concerns.

I just need some general advice on my obligations.

Some people are suggesting a lump sum is best, where wife buys her own house and then supports herself. (Some even say I would not then have to pay a monthly maintence.)

Others say I have the obligation to buy a property for wife and child and pay a mortgage on it as wel as child maintence. (Whilst I can see logic of this wife is not then prepared for me to re-coup money once daughter turns 18 etc)

All I know is I cannot afford to give wife a larger than 50/50 split of current property and then pay 2 mortgages and monthly maintence.

Any help on way forward would be good.

You can probably tell daughter will live with wife, even though some say I should fight for residence myself.

Are you asking about spousal maintenance or child support?

Both in a way as don't know much about it. Been married for 9 years, wife only worked for about 4 of them. Realise I have responsibility to child but would rather not have to give too much to wife !!
