Hi, I am looking for some advice. I have been seperated from my childrens Dad for 5 years. We were never married and our children are 8 and 6. He has always hated me maintenance for the children but as he was employed this was done through the CSA and he didn't have much choice on that. After an argument though he has stopped the maintenance with no warning. I have contacted the CSA and he has told them that he has gone self employed. I am finding them very unhelpful! and have been warned that if he gets himself a good accountant he could end up paying a lot less in child maintenace. Is that CSA the only way to get this resolved or can I take him to court over it? where they will look into his accounts in more details. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately its private agreement or CSA. CSA should look at his accounts though in order to calculate assessment.

Unfortunately, if he has gone self employed, a half decent accountant can make money disappear. It is something a lot of us have to put up with, I'm afraid. The CSA don't like dealing with self employed people as there are so many loop holes and really, the CSA formulas and ways of looking at things just don't fit self employed situations. As such, I'm afraid you will have to make a nuisance of yourself with them and keep on at them.

I am sorry not to be more positive. As far as I am aware, you are unable to ask the courts to deal with child maintenance as this is what the CSA is for. Rock and a hard place.
