Just got my tax credits award and they have stopped my child care. No reason given. They asked to see the child care contracts and invoices which I sent them so now I am paying out a fortune for child care and getting no credits.
No problem with the child element. Of course they never answer the phone so I can't sort this out, grrrrrrrrrrrrr

That's not good James :(

Presumably, once they realise that your child care is as you have said it to be, they resume payments, and back date what you were due from them?

If you are having problems contacting them (I tend to call them dead on 8am and always get an answer), and calling them during the day is difficult due to working, then contact the CAB who will be able to contact them for you on your behalf.

I really hope you get this sorted soon.

Tax credits are a nightmare arnt they?
Last year during the school summer hols I have temporary childcare costs of £175 a week while the kids were off for 6 weeks (I work school hours so term time not a problem). I phone TCO and told them I had 6 weeks of £175 payments as a temp measure for summer hols...and stressed this several times.
Anyway, shortly after I got a few large (£1000+) deposits from TCO into my bank. I phoned to query and was told it was for childcare...I argued that it was too much as my childcare was only £175 for 6 weeks...blah blah blah.
I called in total 12 times about this to be told each time it was my money.
It was spent.
On renewing I was then told I had a MASSIVE overpayment...I almost fainted.
This overpayment means that what we SHOULD be receiving has reduced by 25% a month.
I asked for CD's of phone convo's...got them pretty quick and there I am on the 1st call saying "temporary childcare for 6 weeks of £175...ofsted reg no etc etc"..then the following calls saying "£XXX has gone into my account today..I think theres been a mistake"..."no it's your money" etc
I wrote to adjudicators office to no avail...am having to pay it back....it's so unfair.
Turns out they'd inputted that my childcare costs were £175 a week all year...not just for 6 weeks.
Now I dont trust them at all and from a week on Wednesday I am going to have to pay for my childcare out of my own pocket...not declaring it as they'll mess up again...so for the summer hols I'm going to be totally skint.
Tax credits...cant live with them cant live without them.

I eventually got through to the tax office on Saturday morning and after 30 minutes on the phone the upshot is thay can't tell me why they have stopped my payments. Well if they don't know who does. They said I have to call the Compliance Office on the number that was on the letter that was sent to me. The trouble that number is unobtainable. So back to the main tax credits help line and they don't know and can't help.
Well the letter of complaint had now gone to my MP and they can explain to him why they don't know why they have stopped my payments.
