At what age can you direct child maintenance directly to your kids? Is it age 16 or 18?

Thanks in advance

As long as they are in full time education CM should be paid to the resident parent.
When they are no longer in FTE they dont "need" maintenance as they're fit for work.
So I guess the answer you need is "you cant".

Hi L4N

Why would you want to pay direct to kids, not sure if this is fair on them to be put in that position?

I made the mistake of paying kids the main direct to them, (LOL it worked out cheaper for me as they got less spend per month) :cheer: But this is all well & good until it defaults & then you feel really awful.

Now it goes into the bank & is used on them, the maint is way less than they recieve in spend for phone, pocket money etc etc. X tells them that it is their spend & that alone & he wont give them a penny more (even had to send them with £10 for a night out with X for drinks!)

Sometimes it seems more hassle than it is worth, but its a responsiblity thing really.

According to sols it is supose to be for their living expenses, food, clothing etc hence as the NRP you should pay & as the RP I need to accept & put it towards the kids expenses - so Justgoaway is right - you cant pay it direct to them but to the RP to pay toward their expenses.

You can pay maintenance direct to your children anytime, however anything you pay direct to them won't count towards the maintenance the resident parent is entitled to.
