Hello,

As the title says - when do dependants become non-dependants?

We have 3 daughters (19, 17 & 15). The 19yo has moved out with her little boy and the 17yo will be 18 in December but is still in FTE until July 2012.

The youngest has just turned 15 (in June) and has a little boy of 10 months :) (Yes she really was only 14!!)

My question is - when she turns 16 next year and can claim IS/CTC in her own right - does that then make her a non-dependant? I think probably not because she still cannot live independently (sign her own lease, get credit, etc). However, there is a small part of me that thinks she could be classed as one for the purposes of maintenance, etc.

Also, does our grandson class as a dependant, although not a child of the family (me and stbx).

Thank you xxxx

Hi,

You are only responsible for paying maintenance to your children. I believe the age is 19 where you stop paying CSA, but ive seen so many comments stating otherwise. Certainly its somehting ive looked into and according to the good ole CSA the age you stop paying CSA is 19
