well it's completely true! The law is an ass. The Judge declared that he had done significant work to my house although it was merely cosmetic! He also stated that we were engaged but we never were - the Judge believed him. The whole saga has made me very ill. Also he is on legal aid and has never paid a penny in maintenance to his sons 4 and 8 years old but trying for contact which he is being denied on the grounds of him being an alcoholic!!

Not really sure that saying someones situation is not true is at all appropriate. Every situation is different and every judge is different as this site has proven time and time again, if you don't have confidence in the situation someone is describing then maybe it would just be best to abstain from commenting.

You have my sympathy. Dealing with an alcoholic is not easy.

I am surprised a judge, knowing he is an alcoholic, gave him immediate access to that sort of sum. What were the exact terms of the order? Did the judge have evidence of his alcoholism?

How much exactly does 30% represent? Presumably he will have to pay back some of his legal aid from the settlement?

I wonder if there is anything you could do under the Children Act to ensure you have use of this share until the youngest child is 18?

You are quite right and I apologise. In fact I am so affected by the sheer quantity of misery, real and imagined, in this forum that I should probably back out all together.
