How long does CSA take?

Hello all

How long does it take to process a claim for CM via the CSA? We applied 10 weeks ago now for CM from the NRP who is on benefits, but every time we call the CSA to find out how things are progressing, it's always the same answer 'pending'.

We don't think the NRP will have filled out and sent back the MEF, but NRP is definitely on benefits, so shouldn't it therefore be pretty straightforward? CSA can find out if someone's on benefits surely? Also, there are no deductions, as NRP doesn't have any overnights.

Just wondering how often to chase them up, and what 'pending' seems to be mean (although I appreciate that may be obvious!).

I would call every couple of weeks. Tell them she's on benefits if you haven't already and tell them every time you speak to them.

Yes, it is worth it. Not a lot I know but this is a parent who has only seen their child twice in months, doesn't buy the child anything and used to pester my husband when he was nrp for money over and above what he paid in cm just to support their own habits. It will be put into a bank account for the child to use herself for whatever she wants, and could be as much as £9pw according to the csa calculator. Even if its only £5pw, its extra pocket money isn't it.
