maintenance payments

Hi
Could anybody help me with this matter. I currently pay maintenance for my 2 children who live with their mother. My eldest daughter as just started an approved apprenticeship. Do I still have to pay maintenance? In no way am I trying to shirk out of supporting my daughter, I will support her in my own way and not have to give her mother any money. Thanks in advance

Hi, i dont think you have to because it is not classed as full time edducation as they will be earning a wage, my son started an apprenticeship and his father didnt have to pay for him, this was however, 6 years ago now and i know there has been some changes to the csa, its worth giving them a call or check out their website. hope this helps.x

If a child qualifies for Child Benefit they will also qualify for child support. The following are the rules for CB.

What type of training counts for Child Benefit?
You can get Child Benefit if your child is over 16 and is doing a course of ''approved'' training. Your child needs to have started, enrolled or been accepted onto an approved course before their 19th birthday.
Approved courses are as follows:
• England - Foundation Learning Programmes (previously known as ''Entry to Employment''), Access to Apprenticeships and unwaged Programme Led Apprenticeships
• Wales - Foundation Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Skillbuild/Skillbuild+ (if started before 1 August 2011)
• Scotland - Get Ready for Work (including West Lothian Council''s Skills Training Programme) and Skillseekers
• Northern Ireland - Jobskills and Training for Success, including Programme Led Apprenticeships
A course provided by an employer as part of a job contract doesn''t count as approved. For example, Modern Apprenticeships in Scotland are always provided as part of a job contract, so don’t count as approved training for Child Benefit.
