Thanks Dukey, I just find this a little strange as she will still have a further year at Uni once her year’s placement is complete.

Do my payments stop now or would I have to wait until September?

Her full time studies have ended, she is working, the fact that she intends to continue those studies is incidental in terms of the order, the lady is now a woman, the order is quite clear, though it is a snapshot shall we say, if you want a definitive responce take it to a lawyer.

Much appreciated Dukey. I will hold payment and take it from there. Many thanks.

Just to chip in...

Is this a work placement as part of a course? There are some uni courses where there might be one of more placements either in the UK or abroad. Some placements are remunerated, others are not and some only cover expenses. Technically they are still at uni when the placement occurs as it is part of their education but it is arguable either way.

I know in some unis fees during the placement are not sought but in others, such as Bath uni, around 50% of the fees are payable even though no education is being provided at the time (other than the placement which the uni has nothing to do with).

Yes Charles it has been arranged by the Uni and is work experience although not part of the course. She will return to Uni for her final year in Sep 2014. She will be 35 hour per week and paid £7 per hour whilst on this placement.

It seems like a grey area. Dukey''s solution seems the most pragmatic i.e. studies are ''on hold'' therefore payment can also be ''on hold'' - to be resumed when studies resume.

Knowing the American Uni system quite well, and reading this thread, I can say with quite confidence that she hasnt finished, nor has she post-poned. She is a summer intern. Its common for US students to do a placement before their seniour year in Uni. Studies are not on hold because they break up for summer in early MAy and resume in mid August.

It would be like you not paying for your kids when they are on their 2 week breaks between terms, or during the summer holidays.
