ex debts

i have been seperated for 17 months am i still liable for my ex debts he has built up in this time.

I am not an expert on this, but as I understand it you cannot be held liable for debts incurred by the other half after the time of separation.

This is the case in Scotland at least. I suppose what may complicate things south of the border would be things like a joint credit card,I'm not sure what the legal position down there is, but I'd find it hard to believe that after you've moved out you could be held liable for a mental week in Las Vegas ourtesy of Mastercard.

Can you detail the exact nature of th debt you're worried about?

no your not unless any of the cards bank accounts etc are in joint names. if they are phone and write to them asap explaining the situation and they will freeze them for you.

I am in a similar senario.. but unfortunately for me.. my problems are joint debts..

But as mentioned in the post, if the debts are purely in ex name, u r not liable. Unless for example you live in the home and his name was on the council tax and he has since left... then u r liable..yes
