Received stbx`s form E today. Considering I have always classed him as a stickler for accuracy boarding on Asperger`s , his form is full of lies and exaggerations. He is expecting my children to lie in order to agree with his working out of finances. I have no idea what to do now. Have to make appointment with my sols but really didn''t want to drag my children into it all.
I am totally devastated that he thinks he can manipulate the family even though he has chosen to no longer be part of it.

Just have no idea where to start on trying to sort all this out. Do I have to wait for him to put an offer in, bearing in mind he has already stated that he wants me to buy him out, also he needs £450k to buy somewhere suitable for HIM to live. kids all grown and non dependent.

Forget the kids for a moment and concentrate on yourself as they are self reliant.
Firstly
-Go through your Form E in detail several times
-Write down what you think is missing eg.
Missing bank accounts, ISA. PENSIONS, SAVING a/c''s, PRESERVED PENSIONS, AVC''S, REDUNDANCY MONIES, PENSION DRAWDOWN MONIES, INHERITANCE,
Foreign accounts, endowment policies, life assurance policies, company shares, loans, re-mortgages etc
-now the hard part, gather proof if you can, anything will do but you must try and get proof as knowledge is power.
-Do you have sufficient funds to issue?
if not the mere threat may be enough and he has to re-do his Form E for the court.
-If it gets to court make sure you get a decent barrister and your questionnaire covers all the gaps in your knowledge re his finances
I am awaiting his answers to my questionnaire at the moment but Private message me if you want to talk. please do not give up and what he says he wants is no longer relevant, its what your needs are to live a long and happy life.

Thank you so much for your post, Northwest. Had a very similar chat with a friend. Just cant believe he doesn''t seem to care how stupid he is going to look in court. It is all just made up rubbish. The tightest man in history is suddenly spending and needs £1000 a month for socializing, I put bare minimum on form, as thought we could do this sensibly. Me, as always, doing whats right, trying to be a good person.
Pretty sure I have finances covered, just need to sort out needs v wants. He refers to my career as my pursuits, as if just a hobby. No mention of the 8 yrs I covered while he did his degree.
Upset yesterday, livid today. All progress I guess. Thanks again. Hope all good with you.

I remember that feeling well.

The advice from NW is sound. Channel your energy into a forensic examination of the form E and any bank statements etc you have.
Write a schedule of deficiencies and start your list of questions.
Remember the financial settlement is about needs first and the means you have to meet them. If you have a million pounds in equity, what he is asking for may not be unreasonable. If you don''t and you can both be housed adequately for much less it clearly isn''t.

Don''t get hung up on semantics or enter into pointless tit for tat arguments about who did what. That will just cost money and make you more angry.

Approach this as if you are not personally involved if you can. Don''t worry about what the court will think of him. That''s his problem not yours.

Thanks hadenough,
My biggest problem is we have animals, 2 dogs and 3 horses. I have always worked hard and covered the cost of them myself but obviously less input into household bills. Brought up our children with flexible working hours so never needed childcare etc.
We acquired land through my boss but that all counts for nothing now. The horses are old and retired now but have been part of our family for more than 25yrs.
Without all his exaggerations we should be able to sort, but all the lies means im short by a long way. May end up in a caravan in the field but thats better than having to put the horses to sleep.
Thanks again.
