Married 23 years, 9 separated, 4 children.
I believe I will be able to agree an amicable split with my wife. I gather I will need a Consent Order to ratify our agreement legally, possibly a "Mesher Order" (to sell ths house when our youngest reaches 18) and then just the basic divorce paperwork etc.

Am I missing anything?

Will it pay to spend time "shopping around" for a service that will provide the necessary formality to achieve this in the simplest and lowest cost way? Or should I simply plump for the "Consent Order & Divorce" service @ £349 available under the "Services" Tab on this site...?

Thank you :)

This sites links are very good. If you have no children contact issues and your finances are in order then yes I would.

Maggieman,

The cheapest service is not necessarily the one to plump for, its a case of choosing the one that suits your needs and meets your budget.

The £349 service on Wikivorce may be the right one for you, but if you click the "Legal Access" logo at the top of the site you will see that there are a range of services available at various prices, some even cheaper than £349.

To get a quick overview of the options and the advantages/disadvantages, try reading our buyers guide to compare service options.

Also explore the left hand menu on the legal access page - look at:

- DIY Divorce (£164 combined package)
- Managed Divorce (£304 combined package)
and
- Solicitor Managed Divorce (£349 combined package)

Oh, and just to clarify that you only need to purchase two things:

1) A divorce

2) A consent order

(The £349 Divorce and Consent Order is one example of a service that combines these two services into one package).

The "Mesher Order" if appropriate in your circumstances will be written up as part of the Consent Order - it is not an additional service you need to purchase.

Unless you have major issues with child contact or maintenance then there is no need to pay for any service to cover the "Child" element. You can simply agree terms between yourselves and draw it up as a Private Agreement. Go here to find out more about the governments free child maintenance Options service.
