Sorry if similar questions have already been asked.
I am going to do my own divorce but I don't have any contact details for my ex, we have been split for 7 years and had no contact for 5 years. I did ask some of his family members his whereabouts but they said they didn't know. I know I could try and trace him but the other issue is that he was violent and aggressive and I am scared about him knowing my address.
I don't want anything from him and I have nothing of value, we didn't have any children.
I think I read somewhere that you could swear on oath that you don't know the whereabouts of the other person. Would be grateful of any advice.
Thanks

If you make all reasonable efforts to find the address and fail then yes you can do the swearing thing, court call it an affidavit in support, Petition on 5 years separation with out consent, you will probably need a solicitor to write the affidavit though.

Thanks for answering.
I would be entitled to Legal aid so had thought about letting a solicitor handle the whole thing but I thought if I dealt with it myself it would be quicker.

Yes if you qualify if you google legal aid and answer a few questions you will get a good idea if you do qualify, if all is well a solicitor will handle it all for you :)
