Hiya,

No not recommended to do DIY.

However if you and your ex are in agreement it can be a lot cheaper!

See Wiki's offer:

Yeah I saw that, has anyone any experience of it?

I should add that whilst we have agreed (and already split) finances, we do also have 2 young kids. Again residence is agreed as well but will this complicate a consent order?

As WR says don`t even think about writing your own order, the judge will chuck it back in double quick time.

I used the wiki service at £179 the price has dropped since then to £139 - no problems a chat on the phone then they send a draft to be agreed then it goes to court to be sealed with form D81, which they also complete, the court fee is £45 so £139+£45= £184. seems cheaper than £1,800 inc vat.

As far as I'm aware a Consent Order is just finances.

The best thing to get legalised and drawn up.

If you're in agreement to contact/residence with the kids, there's no real necessity immediately to get this drawn up - its extra expense.

However in the future if either of you do become difficult with the contact arrangements, you can go to Court to get a Contact Order drawn up.

Consent Order and Contact Order are 2 separate things.

Not really .............. quite a bit of stuff we can do DIY, but if you want to protect your future finance, the words us 'laypeople' use can be interpreted and mis-interpreted and twisted to mean something else (by a sol) and lots of holes/loop holes can be found, so to prevent anyone being able to do this and to make sure its all water tight the legal bods do their thing and write things in a way that protects any come back from the other side down the line.
