I'm afraid I didn't read this, but the point is, neither will a judge.

Have you any idea how many divorce petitions the average family judge has to read in a year?

Neither have I, but you see my point. Would you like to read 1,500 words about how miserable my marriage was? Of course you wouldn't.

The normal rule is you are brief and succinct. You give dates, locations and brief, relevant details. You give the first incident, the most recent and the most serious. You simply have to demonstrate that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. Don't forget to number your paragraphs.

Hope this helps.

Funny thing is I didn't read it either! I started but then skimmed down to see the reply.

I think that means it needs shortening!

Also you need to be married for a year before being eligible for divorce so you will need to wait until a week on Monday before submitting the Petition. ;)

You need 5 or six reasons and to focus on incidents during the last 6 months and be specific about dates.

eg Since [pick a date] the Respondent regularly spent weekends with his parents leaving the Petitioner feeling unwanted and lonely.

I agree if you send that to court the judge will either refuse it or send it back, they simply do not have time to read essays, 5 or 6 short points with dates if you have any, you just need to show the marriage has ended not produce a diatribe, try and scale it down to sentences or short paragraphs, I had a quick look at my particulars and I reckon there are about 60ish words.

Thanks to you all. I think I'm finding it hard to put it to 6 points as I don't hate him. I believe if his family had kept nose out we wouldn't have been in this mess.

Shame I can't divorce on grounds of 3rd party interference!!
