Demanding information from solicitor

Hi

My wife and / or her solicitor have obtained confidential information from a source unknown to me. They are using this in correspondence to extract further money as part of a divorce agreement.

Am I able to legally ask them for the source of this information.

I am aware of the Hildebrand rules although they''re sketchy. My understanding is that they cannot use this information against me in court, is this correct?

The details are regarding a recent tax refund. I have already completed a financial disclosure many months ago. I am not aware that I should disclose information as it arises otherwise I''d be contacting my wife''s solicitor every month!

Somehow they obtained the figures of my refund but I do not know how they did this. Mail is directed to my own home not my FMH, my employers have not been contacted by anyone and HMRC should not give out confidential details to third parties. If my stbx''s solicitor obtained this information so easily then I am concerned about ID theft and such like as anyone could obtain my personal details. I have asked them how they got the tax information but my questions have been ignored.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Financial information does need to be updated. I was sending new bank statements etc every couple of months while we went through the courts.
Can''t help you on how she got the information but the fact is she did. Were there exact figures? Or do you think she just suspected you were due a refund and you have now confirmed it?
The thing is, if you had not declared this and it was later revealed, any settlement could be overturned. It does need to be factored in. Perhaps you could suggest you both update your financial information?
