Hi, im from California and got married to a British Citizen in California. We''ve decided to get divorced, but I have no idea where to start. Can I file for divorce in the UK even though we married to CA. I live in CA and he lives in the UK... where should I file for divorce!?!? Im so lost.

From my understanding it doesnt matter where you file- you just need the marriage certificate and to state the reason.

You are eligible to divorce in the UK because your husband lives here and I assume you are also be eligible to divorce over there. If you divorce in England & Wales the finances are treated separately and you need to ensure that there is a court order dismissing future claims. Before you apply though it''s worth doing some research to compare the differences and costs.
