Hi,

Wasn't sure if anyone would be able to give me any advice or where to put my question (and I'm worried sick).... anyway here goes.

Seperated Feb 2008 Decree Absolute April 2009. The now Ex,seems to have continued to have used my tax code inorder to keep his tax code below the 40% tax bracket during April 2008 and April 2009. How do I know this? I received a letter last month from his tax accountant saying that I have over paid for that tax year (at least thats what I think he is saying!)Plus I owe him £50 for his services and a form I have to sign in order to claim back the tax! I have about £1600 owing to me from Inland Revenue. However I never signed any thing last year! And I did not work nor did I receive the money (however much that is) they are saying I paid tax on!

I don't want to claim this Tax back as I don't want to implicate myself in anything dodgy. I've been used enough!

I have asked my sol about these things but he is unable to get to the bottom of the dodgy dealings or give me an answer. It all seems just within the law. However it doesn't help me!!! I claim child tax credit and need the CTC money without it my children and I would not be able to survive.

How can I be due this Tax rebate if I haven't signed anything?
Should I except the tax rebate?
What are the implications it will have on my CTC?

My P60 from his business states I earned £0 last year!
And I have no idea how much money I have supposedly earned last year!

Sorry I am really confused

Thanks for any advice

Hi Cinders

I wouldn't take the tax rebate, as tempting as it must be, without understanding a lot more about what it is. You definitely don't want to implicate yourself in anything.

My first call would be to his accountant, asking him to explain his letter, explain the reason for the tax rebate, and explain just what has been going on in your name!

If that doesn't start to clear things up and you're still supicious of sneaky dealings by your ex then I would call the inland revenue direct and tell them your story and tell them how concerned you that you have been implicated in something. As long as you don't actually claim the cash and wave the flag now to the tax office then I wouldn't have thought they can hold you at all responsible.

Talk to his accountant first though...he might be able to shed some light on things...

Good luck!
