My wife an I are separating (within the last week)however for financial reasons and our son (7 years old) are required to stay in the same house until sold and we sort out a 'fair' split.

At present we are trying to come to a reasonable agreement on the split of mortgage and utilities bills that will be fair in the interim until we go our separate ways withregards to living arrangements.

She would like to do 70/30 in her favour as she feels this is reasonable and proportionate to our salaries. I would rather do it based on a set proportionment to salaries that is reviewed on a say 2-3 month basis subject to employment and pay reviews etc.

Is there any prescedence in how this should be done. I do not want to volunteer too much now and be obliged at a later date to continue this as I may not be able to afford it however I also do not want to be accused of not continuing to support the 'family unit' and our son.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

MArk,

Forgive me but I do not really see what the issue is here.

If you both agree 70:30 on bills is fair, why not go with that for now .. and if the situation changes, revisit it then?

It is a good idea to stay friendly about the finances ..
