In scotland. Son is just starting a college course today and has to apply for saas. Putting down joint income he will not qualify for much of a loan.
Husband left in Jan but no money / property has been changed as yet. His wages come into my acount. This is about to change as he is (through the grapevine)moving in with Gf I believe :-(

He has told me to put down separated and my income as I earn very little so my son will get much more of a loan.

Is this true i can do this even with the money situ?

It is all very daunting and I am still so distraught I can hardly bear to start surfing into all this horrible reality.

Can anyone help me?

He is still on council tax, and obv I have not changed anything re child benefit as a separated as I thought none of this could be done till the money was perhaps legally done?

If you are now living separately, then yes you are separated. If you tick that box on your son's form, it does mean that only your income will be taken into account re his loans

I suggest that you make sure you are claiming all the benefits and tax credits you are entailed to claim as a single parent - if this is all too daunting for you, go and see the Benefits adviser at your local CAB, who will be able to help you with claim forms etc. You should inform all the relevant agencies that he is no longer living at the house too.

Thanks. I thought because his income was still coming into a joint account that would mean I could not make any claims till I was literally on my own income plus what ever he then deems to give me. Can you help me on that?
