My House - what is my partner entitled to?

I am in the early stages of seperating from my long term partner (at her request) and need some general advice.

I purchased my house many years before she moved in and we have lived together for 20 years.

We have jointly paid the monthly utility bills, however any home improvements have been paid for by me.

We both have grown up kids ( who we had from previous relationships and have never lived with us) and are both retired.

Does she have any legal right to remain in my house and / or any claim to a share of the property?

Before this question could be answered I would need to know whether you were married.

Welcome to Wiki. I assume you are not married. The ruled are very different.
Is the house in your sole name?
If you are not married and she is not on deeds then her only claim would be under property law. She could make a claim based on having a beneficial interest. If you search the site using the search bar at the top of the page, you will find information to help you.

It can be a messy and expensive procedure. To avoid this sort of thing, we normally suggest you agree to pay some ''go away'' money. The amount will depend on you and your circumstances but it should be at least enough for a deposit and a few months rent if possible.

Hi thanks for your reply, no we have never been married, but have cohabited together for 20 years.

And as previously mentioned we have no children together either.

Hi thanks for your reply the house is in my name only and you presume correctly that we have never been married.
