been together 23 yrs her lawyer is asking i give house over for nothing plus she wants a lump sum from my savings,kids have grown up she paid nothing to house and ran up huge amounts of debt she cannot pay and she would not get mortgage if she bought me out. is this right

No its wrong. But this is the way it is. It doesnt matter who pays what or who does what in marriage. When you come to divorce your assets (house, savings etc) get carved up and debts settled. In theory you both walk away with enough cash to start again. But thats rare. Usualy, one person gets more than the other and someone has huge legal bills that swallow up the rest. Most of us are in debt for years and years. Although I paid off my legal bills bit by bit the settlement I had to pay will still be with me more than 10 years past retirement. I think the only way out of it is to die. C

You were not married. The law relating to your case is very different to divorce, and it is important when you ask for advice that you point that out.
