Nope. But I imagine Haringey Council tops the UK list.

That's shocking! But then most full time carers are mothers and generaly most attacks/murders are done by someone the victim is known to/close to....parent, spouse...etc..So I believe the statistics would be similar for UK aswell...

Heartbreaking but it is a fact..Some people shouldn't have children, you need a licence to watch TV, but not for being responsible for a helpless baby...

It's heart breaking that any child loses it's life. It's worse that this just represents the tip of the iceberg of those who survive, but in awful conditions.

Perhaps these statistics should be remembered when the question of contact for father's is raised. In the cold light of day a properly understood statistic should be weighed against unsubstantiated allegations and prejudice.

Sadly, I'm not actually surprised by this statistic.

....snip

I noticed that most murders by relatives were by famales (sic) 24 against 7. How is this possible? Surely women with custody/control do not choose their family members.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Last week it was reported that Ofsted put the figure of child abuse deats at 282 over a 17 month period which had many of us confused, including the NSPCC. In fact based on government homicide statistics the figure is about one a week and the gender of the natural parent perpetrators is roughly 50:50. Stats available on NSPCC site if anyone cares to look them up

The Ofsted report was misleading as the the figure is made up of all children who died while receiving any kind of local authority help - including terminally ill children receiving social care and accidental deaths of nursery age children.

One child dying of abuse is one too many but whatever measures are introduced it's simply unrealistic to think that all the deaths can ever be prevented.
