Hi,
I'm looking for advice, my husband and i have been together 3 1/2 yrs and got married 14months ago. Its never been all consuming and fantastic, but he is a lovely guy!
For the last 8 months we have argued more and more, and i am more and more unhappy.
After a number of blazing rows, we had a discussion and decided separation was the best option. I am in the process of looking for full time work and need to find somewhere to go, though he isn't throwing me out. It is hard being in the house after the decision has been made.
I don't know what the next step is, once i have moved out. Do i need to speak to a solicitor straight away? I honestly don't think there is any going back. There is no-one else involved and i think it could be (i say this now!!) that it could be an amicable split, but don't know what to do! I know that divorce cannot go ahead till you have been separated for 12 months but i don't know in practice what this means. I don't want to be paying a solicitor for no reason!!
Any advice would be greatly received!!
x

If you are both decided your marriage is over you can file for divorce now.

Grounds would be unreasonable behaviour.

If you don't, you have to wait 2 years and then get divorced if your ex agrees.

You don't mention any children, your marriage was relatively short, so it should be simple to sort out, provided you can agree on the finances.

Thanks for that. We have no children, and i'm hoping finances would be pretty simple, though i'm not on the mortgage of the house we bought together.

I would like (like most i suspect) to sort it all out as painlessly and not expensively as possible.

I just want all the information so i don't end up with nothing, or paying for everything. I'm trying to keep us talking as hard as that is!!
