Hi,

My wife and I are getting divorced after a 5 years+ separation. We are currently doing mediation, but it looks like we will not reach an agreement re. our finances.

I have just used the "Divorce Calculator" and found out that I should pay my ex £461.70 pcm maintenance. I do not understand how this calcultion came about if I earn net £1,418.70 and my essential monthly costs are £1,261.80?? And does this include child maintenance?

This also already takes into account that my ex (who is looking after our only son, 14 years old, 24/7) gets 70% of our total net assets of £434,960.

Hello

The calc is a number cruncher, if you would like wiki peeps to give you an idea post these answers,

Your respective ages;

The number of children you have and their ages;

How many nights the children spend with each parent;

The length of your marriage and any period of pre marriage cohabitation;

Your respective incomes;

Your respective outgoings;

Your assets - both soley held and joint;

Your liabilities.

Hello
You wont pay any SM,

You dont earn enough,

SM is to help one spouse back into single life, you have lived apart for five years thus showing she doesnt need SM,

Hi Dukey,

Thanks for that comforting advice. However, because she ssys has health problems (in part apparently caused by myself) , thus being unable to work and has basically lived off benefits since we separated, she will probably get her solicitor to push for SM!

Any advice on this situation!

Cheerio
