Hi, What a fabulous site this seems. I'm 35 2 kids 5 & 3, in the process of seperating from my husband, but still in same house. Things haven't been good for a long time, & it's very hard emotionally, he has bi-polar depression which means he's either manically hyper or totally withdrawn from the world & us, & has agressive outburts & threatens suicide if he things don't go his way. At the moment I'm feeling really guilty as I want out, & am still uncertain if it's the right thing to do. He says if I leave I can't take the childre & he'll make it impossible for me to see them. So confused is probably the best way to describe me at the moment. Sorry to ramble. Any thoughts/advice very welcome.

Plum3,

I respect this is a very difficult situation, however the one that moves out faces the more difficult tasks in the future. I am in n o way advising you to stay but consider as much advice and as many options as possible before making any decisions or making any moves. There is a lot of knowledge/support/experience here...I wish you well.

And just to add that how is he going to stop you taking the kids with you? Just make sure as Elie says that you think things through and get plans in place before making any move.

Is he receiving any treatment for his bipolar condition? Is your gp aware of how difficult things are for you and the children?

This is not unheard of, albeit rare...having support and plans in place are great advice...please take all the help and support you can get plum and look after you as it appears you are coping with a great deal at the moment.

Hi Elie - just think that he wouldn't have much chance of keeping kids with his bi-polar condition. Janey

Hi Plum

Having been in different but similar circumstances - make sure that your have birth certs, passports, NHS details etc with you should you decide to move.

These cost a lot of money to replace and a lot of hassle to replace should you move out with "your" area.

Best wishes
