Apologies, I should have posted here first to introduce myself before starting new threads but I missed this part of the board!

I'm posting on behalf of my husband who has a nine year old son from a previous relationship.

He and his ex partner split when their son was five and unfortunately the situation has never been amicable.

We went through the courts for 18 months before finally settling on an out of court contact agreement two years ago. This hasn't been without issues, but progress had slowly been made so we thought it unwise to go back to court over minor issues.

Last month a lot of new information came to light, in summary that the ex partner and her new boyfriend have been drinking heavily, have each been arrested for assaulting each other in front of my step son on several occasions and as a result he is known to social services.

We're now in the process of applying for custody as we're very worried about my step son's safety. Unsurprisingly, his mother hasn't reacted well to this but her reaction has reinforced that we are doing the right thing for my step son and that his safety and wellbeing have to come first, no matter how long and difficult the process.

I'm hoping that things will be a little easier this time as we have been through the courts before and therefore they aren't the scary unknown that they were previously.

I look forward to getting to know you all better and being of help wherever I can.
