Hello all,

After 5 years of marriage we have decided to divorce, it is amicable with no children involved. We have bought our house together and paid equally into it although she earns about 5k a year more then me.

We have agreed that I will keep the house on and I will buy her out of the mortgage, how do I reach a calculation for what to pay her.

I know it will be roughly based on the house's worth and what is outstanding what we owe, but will there be anything else I need to consider?

Thank you

jasetheace welcome to wikivorce, you say buy her out of the mortgage do you mean take on the mortgage (will the lenders let you?) and pay her half the equity?

Calculate
Equity = Current value of property - mortgage - costs of selling.
You will need to raise half the equity and take on the mortgage. Although your not selling now you will need to to realise your share of the equity at some point so it seems reasonable to allow for that in the calculation.
