Hi - divorced many years ago (when all the laws were very different), moved to another area of the country and my 2 children are now at uni. I co-habit with my partner who has 2 children under 16 - they live with their mother and we have them every other weekend. A few months ago my partner's Decree Nisi was granted...but now the absolute is on hold as a thorny subject particularly with regard to financial arrangements. I feel vulnerable because I know my own hard earned salary could be included in all the calulations for maintenance...even though I had nothing to do with the breakdown of my partner's marriage. It's difficult not have negative feelings about his (nearly) ex wife as I've now discovered she is expecting him to be her financial backup for life.....any ladies out there in the same situation as me?

I think you need to concentrate on what the law says rather than looking for laws which don't exist. Unless there are substantial resources maintenance is based on the need of one party and the ability to pay of the other. Your income is an issue because you contribute to shared expenses thus reducing his income needs and increasing his ability to pay. You don't pay the maintenance, it's his liability.
