Hi, I am a property developer and landlady, I have run the business with my daughter for over 4 1/2 years.
we now have 30 properties that are rented out.
My xtb has 14, he acquired these over the last 2 years by my daughter and I paying the deposits.
My daughter has now been joined as 2nd respondant in the divorce to protect her interests and hopefully recoup some of the money she put in.
I on the other hand will more than likely not receive a penny.
Do not be fooled into thinking that if after a long marriage where you payed the mortgage, deposits, repairs or any other bills associated with additional properties that you are entitled to more than half.
I found this out the hard way by spending over £12,000 in solicitors costs and that was only to get to the first hearing.
I know that you are hurt, betrayed, angry and want revenge for all the injustice and pain your ex has caused but please take a long look at where you will be after it is over.
I like most people had the red mist in front of my eyes, it was taken away with illness.
Money is important but if you are not around to spend it, what is the point.
I now self rep as I was quoted an estimated bill of £40,000, with a further £10 to £20,000 for my daughter.
If there is any way either through friends/relatives that you can come to some agreement, do so, as the costs involved can be horrendous.
Try to get a Clean Break as soon as possible so you can continue running your business and get on with your life.
Nobody wins apart from the solicitors in a divorce.

Oh so true Dawn, but you cannot communicate with someone who absolutely refutes to and no legal representative of either party will encourage or draw such dilatory conduct to the courts attention. I Self Repped as i felt I had no alternative to get matters progressed....brief explanation on my blog.."Why I self Repped"....I truelly couldnt take any more and do not believe I had much choice
