I know it must sound wierd-but after 20years my Ex wants to sell the Former Maritel home-which he put in both names after our divorce. Fraud has taken place and so this case is very complex and costs are mounting-my solicitor has allowed me to do a lot of the paperwork myself-but he and his solictors are a waste of time and space- he has still not provided his form E and other documents and is now trying to say he has spent 360 days refurbishing said property at £200 a day-(£72,000 labour) plus £30,000 for a new kitchen, bathroom etc he is trying to get the Courts to reduce the value of the asset-neither of us has lived there for 29 years and he has rented it out meanwhile.
Has anyone had experience of how a Court deals with a dodgy EX like this? He is a self employed builder and I am sure most of the receipts are for stuff not put in the house, but on jobs or in his own house.

It is a strange situation you are in.I do not know the answer but I think that you should give the value of the property and the equity in it then someone might be able to help.I am sure a judge will see through him.

Hi Phoenix, Just a few words of support.
Is he trying to say he is charging himself labour costs for doing work in his own (jointly owned) house?
He can't charge you if you never asked him to do the work.

I would ask for itemised receipts and photos of the items in situ, or go and see that it is all in the property.

I would also get the tenants who are living in your house to show you their rent books so you have some idea of the income being sourced.

I hope someone comes along soon with some answers for you.

Thank you for your response- I have £29,000 worth of B&Q , Wickes etc reciepts-that I am going through- I have already establised that he has bought 2 baths, 2 kitchens, 80 sq meters of carpet-absolutly loads of wood for flooring , lino etc- 100+ Plaster boards etc this is a 2bed flat.
value agreed £245,000, purchased for £20-30,000 under the Right to Buy Scheme. There are currently no tenants,as he wants to sell the property- but the tenant that was there for 11 years was on benefits and I have the evidence of that. Rental Income near to £79,000.
It is clear that he is trying to reduce the value of the asset. I have since found some of the receipts relate to private jobs he has done as a self employed builder.
My solicitor is allowing me to draft an email-highlighting every receipt that is doubtful- I will also be asking for his accountant to swear that none of the receipts have been included as his normal self employed business, evidence that he has employed Corgi registered and electric persons to do do the gas & electric work. This is all making me feel very negative-ie I feel like a B**tch, and physically and mentally tired. Bright side is, my solicitor is allowing me to do the work-so keeping costs down-his costs todate £30,000-it would have been easier for him to have paid that to our-Now Grown up daughter
