Does anyone live in Oxfordshire or Berkshire for eg Reading? I dread each weekend since my husband left me and would like to meet new friends even if it is just for a quick drink down the pub.

Purely on a friendship basis so slight bias for women since my self confidence is in tatters. Sorry guys!

I hope someone on this site is able to help.

But ultimately if you want friends, you need to get them.
Have you got any old friends who could perhaps come and stay with you or you could go and stay with them?

I've kept up with my friends who live far away by writing letters, emails and texts as well as phone calls.

I've also gone out to join a book club and gone to talks/lectures locally. You may find a new interest this way and of course any people going will already have that interest in common with you.

I found I was getting down at weekends, but I now look on them as opportunities to tackle the house, paperwork, rearranging furniture etc. If the weather is nice I go for long walks. If it isn't I might go to the cinema. Doing things on your own may seem a bit scary, but you can enjoy them as you don't have to cater for a companion who wants the loo/something to drink/doesn't fancy the film etc. Rediscover yourself as someone you enjoy spending time with and other people will want to spend time with you and you'll attract new friends.

Go for it!

Thanks NR. I will do my best. At least it would get me out of the house.
