Hi, this may come accross as selfish, but here it goes... I have been married for 30 years, we have raised 3 children, all now in their 20's...and still living at home!My wife and I have always had a fiesty marriage, as we both have strong personalities. However, the past year or so has been getting much worse, where its almost impossible to spend time together without arguing. Now all you ladies will no doubt scream MCP etc, but we used to get on well for 3 weeks out of every month and then have a bad argumentative week. These days its reversed where we have an occaisional good week and the rest is unhappy. She does a good impression of Peggy Mount eg a bit of a Dragon! and I basically dont want to spend the last 25 years(if I am lucky) of my life like this. I have told her I can't accept this and even tried keeping out of her way, but it doesnt work. She just accuses me of sulking!
So I think the only alternative is to bite the bullet and get a divorce. She is against this. What I dont know, is where she and I stand legally and financialy. She has a p/t self employed job as a carer and I have a £70k pa directorship. We have a house which is almost paid for...and the 3 grown up kids, who have no rights to the house as they signed this away when we last remortgaged. I want to do things the right way, but without scoring any major own goals, so was thinking of selling the family home, and splitting the equity in half, so we could each buy a flat.Do I have to pay her maintenance? Should I do anything more?

Thanks, checked the link and have already tried the clculator. The problem I found was in relation to our expenditure, as it all comes out of my account for the family home, whereas post divorce it would be seperate. Any tips?

Its a bit complicated, but here goes- I amd 53, she is 51.I earn £70kpa, she earns£2.5kpa( she keeeps her money). I have £3939pm take home and We also get £820pm from the kids for loans/house keeping which all comes in to our joint account. From this account we spend £3193pm. Our house is worth £300k, with £45k outstanding joint mortgage. My pension is worth £100k.
