Hi everyone

I’m new to this whole separation and divorce business (and to this forum) so I hope you’ll bear with me!

My W and I are separating and I’m looking for advice on what would be a fair split in finances. We’ve been married for 15 years, H-48, W-45. FMH is worth approx 230k, mortgage outstanding is 73k. My pensions have been valued at 136k. W only has small pension which we have agreed to disregard. We have two school age kids. I work full time, W part time.

We are looking at offsetting my pensions against the FMH, so W would take over the property and remaining mortgage.

Does this seem a fair split? Any advice would be appreciated.

Where would you live? And what would your ex-wife live on in retirement. Isn't the be all and end all but offsetting £160k cash against £136k that can't be accessed for 7 years is possibly a risk and may have some questions to be asked

Thanks for your reply. I would look for a new property to live in and share access to children. W will use parents’ property/assets as her pension pot when she eventually inherits them. Tying up my share in pensions isn’t ideal but would offer a straightforward split. I want to be fair but not to my detriment.
