A lot would depend on circumstances.

Ages, incomes, children, other assets.

You need to post a lot more details.

So what are you hoping for and what does she want?

Does your health prevent you from working more hours?

Is there a reason why she only works 20 hours? What is she doing about finding full time work?

I think given the difference in your ages and the fact that so much of the pension was accrued before marriage, there is a reasonable argument for you to be able to preserve part of it.

When are you able to access the pension? Do you know what kind of tax free lump sum you would be able to get?

What is your housing situation?

Is there a mortgage on the former matrimonial home? How much is outstanding? Can she afford to take it on herself/with her new partner?

If you are representing yourself, it may be worth getting a legal opinion on the situation. Have a look at the fixed price services we offer to support litigants in person or give the helpline a call.
