I am embroiled in the middle of financial remediation where assets were looking pretty evenly split, until my Private Pension CETV came back with a very high figure on it (£600k) which her side have just added to the asset spreadsheet as though it was cash. The pension is currently in payment and is my only source of income as I'm retired due to age and ill health.

Her solicitors want to appoint a Single Joint Expert (SJE) Actuary to perform a valuation of the pension due to new PAG guidance.

Is it safe to approve their doing this? Or should I object and ask to choose another SJE actuary to ensure independence?

Obviously, as this pension is my only source of income now I'm concerned it will be taken away or I'll end up paying her side some stupid amount in respect of all previous payments to me from it.

The usual approach to choosing an actuary is for one side to provide names, time frames and quotes from 3 and the other party chooses which one to use.

You cannot be asked to pay her pension income you have already had.

If a pension report is prepared, it is worth asking about offset calculations. You may be able to offset some or all of the pension against capital.
