Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to finding a sol that doesn't charge £150 per hour and has the first session free, I live in Stirling so would prefer someone local, as I work away from home my only times I could make an appointment would be late on a Friday or early Monday morning.
How long does it normally take to set up an agreement, my case is fairly straight forward, there are no children involved, basically the facts are the wife left me to pay the joint loan of £25,000 and the mortgage which is also in both names, I currently live at the MH which is on the market at present which if sold for the current price will leave a profit of approx £10,000. The wife left in February this year leaving our savings of £4,000, the only other asset would be the wife's pension, my take on this is that the pension would cancel out the money she left.
Thanks

The hourly rate doesn't reflect the overall costs. It's possible to instruct a solicitor with a high hourly rate who works efficiently so costs less than a solicitor at a cheaper rate. I'm not sure that you will find a solicitor who charges less than £150/hr.

If you both agree it doesn't take long and isn't all that expensive setting up a Separation Agreement. You can find a family law specialist in your area at Family Law Association

PS If you change your country to Scotland it will help avoid confusion between the two legal systems ;)

Thanks Fiona,
I have looked at the FLA site but the closest to me is Glasgow. I have now made an appointment with a SOL in Stirling for next Friday with the initial cost set at £75 if we then proceed the full estimate in my case could be about £350 including the £75, this doesn't sound too bad. Thanks for the tip I will now change the country to Scotland.
Cheers
Phil
