Child support is rather a blunt instrument. What happens is an allowance of 15/20/25% is deducted from the non resident parents income respectively for 1/2/3+ children living in their household. If the NRP earns more than their new partner the family's WFTC should then be added to their income and then the usual calculation is made.

Unfortunately the CSA is the present system and although its better than the previous system, it has it flaws.

Both PWC and NRP believe its unfair but what do you replace it with?

It mighy be that the gf's CSA is reduced due to her ex's family situation??

The main difficulty with using the CSA is its a formula and doesnt take into account each families situation, the previous system did and it was a complete nightmare.
