Hello

Brand new to this site. It looks very attractive compared to the £2K I've just been quoted by my solicitor; and thats if everything goes to plan and is straigtforward. Is there anyone out there who can vouch for the validity and effectiveness of using this method to divorce and sort out all of the financial stuff etc? I don't wish to sound cynical but my sol. has told me to stay well clear from DIY divorce (as he would, obviously) but I just need some reassurance before I proceed in this direction. Can anyone help?

thanks so much

M

Hi PIPCAT2,

I cannot vouch for the "DIY" or other means of div of this site as I was over 7 years in the mire before said site was opened. I have however read of a few posters that have had "clear cut" DIY, but do not want to give their details as you will inderstand. I would however suggest that you consider the experiences, knowledge and otherwise of the peeps here whilst you promulgate your options. I wish you well.

If you mean you want to use the site for support and advice while you self rep, you will not find a site better, frankly. I may now be a member of the team, but in my desire to want to share my knowledge I looked around a great number before I joined and couldnt find anywhere better :).

Thank you all for your responses. I didn't explain myself very well but what I want to know is has anyone self represented using the fixed priced divorce for £249. How did it go? Where there any problems when you thought you really could do with having a solicitor representing you? Is there anyone who moved from this option over to a solicitor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I saw a solicitor yesterday and am about to petition but the sol. wants £1500 upfront and has stated that the overall costs, not including court fees, will be £2000. Does this sound right?

Shezi thank you for your comment. Hope things continue to go well for you. Keep me posted on how you are getting on.

Will do pipcat - since we are using the fixed-price divorce, it is being 'managed' by the sols on my behalf and my H is self-repping. We had already agreed our own finances so will be applying for Consent Order when the Decree Nisi is granted.

Right now we're at the stage of affidavit having been sworn and gone back to court so awaiting decree nisi.

Will keep you posted. Since we are sharing costs of FP Divorce / Consent Order / court costs, there has been no hassle so far. I think the value of Fixed-Price divorces (all done online apart from oath on affidavit) is where spouses have agreed as much as possible and don't want to pay hefty sols fees. This is where it's at for us. Where there is disagreement, sols often become necessary to negotiate the conflict and so costs begin to rise sharply. I'm confident we can avoid that. For now...
