By paternity fraud Forseti means the awful situation when a Father brings up a child, sometimes for many years, having been led to believe it is their biological child only then to discover the child was not biologically theirs.

Dear Fiona,
yes i was aware of the expression, however i fail to understand how it applies in my case, as there are no issues of paternity invoved in my case. I am accepted as the actual father to my son, even by my X. Unless you are applying it in a figerative way, in that its as if it applies to me even though i am his righful father. It seems though as if i have as little rights as the positon you mention, NOT BEING HIS PATERNAL FATHER!! Od situation, even though my name does appear on his birth cert.

It wasn't being implied that paternity fraud applied to your case I don't think, rather there was a bias against fathers because mothers automatically get PR and fathers don't.

I understand why this might seem unfair but surely it boils down to biology - there is never any doubt who the mother is when she gives birth but the same cannot be said for fathers. Perhaps we should all become hermaphrodites. :S

Sorry to sow confusion. I simply raised paternity fraud as another means by which fathers can lose PR (actually the court's view was that I had never had PR). I didn't mean it applied in Onlylexus's case; I was just trying to show empathy!

Fiona's definition is very neat and succinct. Generally there is no doubt over maternity, except in rare cases where, for example, the wrong embryo is implanted during IVF.

There was a wonderful case recently where a woman conceived after sleeping with identical twins; obviously DNA was no help. The judge awarded paternity (otherwise known as liability for child support) on the basis of which twin kept it up for longer.

I'm not sure I understand DL's comment - are you saying you don't know what paternity fraud is, or that you don't accept it as a concept, or is this a topic for another thread?
