What is annoying - promotion this "legal aid" like it's really free legal help. Why do they do that? So why do they call it "free"?

So Catty, are you protracting this in case you could get more? You will not get free legal aid if you go to a fully contested hearing.

You will get a L-O-A-N and it will be re-paid from your settlement; and if you lose, you COULD be subject to your ex's legal expenses also.

Which means you might walk away with absolutely nothing. (At this point I really feel like I'm picking on you! I'm rally NOT! I'm actually quite concerned that you are not considering all that is being said here) I think you should be fully informed of the risks before you make your mind up. Please bear in mind legal costs in these matters.

Catty,
I think you have had some really good advice here; and I think you are very lucky if you can walk away unscathed further; and without the risk of losing most of your settlement in legal fees.
Good luck
Sera

I am seriously afraid end up with much less. I have no idea how much I spend so far on my solicitor...

You could look at the bills from your solicitor. You could even attempt to accept; but say only if he'll meet your Costs. If you've spent this of your own accord; ie: His offer was always on the table.... then you can hardly hold anyone else responsible for those bills.

Another thing. This is like gambling. Win or Lose. You are winning. If you want to walk away now, you walk away a winner. If you decide to gamble further costs; further emotional energy, further time: That's YOUR choice. It'd be just a BAD CHOICE in my opinion.

So, do you think I can ask him to pay my legal costs?
