Its a noble idea walking away and taking nothing but I really think seeing as you have an end in sight - just get some distance between the two of you and think what you both want to do. If hes being hurtful its because hes hurt if you hoped hed be alright about things or even be grateful you have to give him time to realise you are trying to be fair.

I trust theres no children involved so at least your situation is easier to sort than many.
